You Are That Avinashi — Discovering Chivam Within

No one has seen God directly. Yet, we understand that space is available everywhere. We cannot see space with our eyes, but we know it exists because everything exists within it. Space does not need to be pointed out to us; its presence can be understood.

In the same way, you cannot see your mind. But you know that the mind is there because you experience its contents—thoughts, feelings, emotions, desires, expectations, fears and worries. The contents of the mind reveal the existence of the mind, just as the existence of everything around us reveals the availability of space.

An analogy: Space and the room

Imagine an empty room.

You can see the walls, floor, ceiling and objects inside it. But you cannot see the space itself. If you remove everything from the room, the space does not disappear. It was already there.

Similarly, thoughts and emotions are the contents of the mind. When thoughts are present, you become aware of the mind through those thoughts. When thoughts become silent, the mind becomes increasingly empty and peaceful.

But there is something still deeper.

Beyond Space

According to Chivality, God is understood as Space—the all-pervading Divine presence. But there is something beyond even Space.

Space itself has not been created by a human being. We cannot point to someone who manufactured space. It simply exists.

Just as a volcano appears to emerge from deep within the Earth without being created by human effort, Chivality describes Chivam as that which is beyond Space and beyond creation. Chivam is not something that can be seen as an object. It is Avinashi—the indestructible, beyond destruction and beyond ordinary perception.

Space is available because of That.

Therefore:

Space is not the final reality.

That which makes Space possible is beyond Space.

That is called Chivam.

You cannot see Chivam with your eyes because Chivam is not an object that can be seen. You can only realise it.

You Are THAT

The most important teaching of Chivality is:

You are That Avinashi.

You are not merely the body. You are not merely the mind and its contents. The thoughts, emotions, feelings, desires and fears appearing in the mind are not your original nature.

Consider a clear mirror covered with dust.

The mirror is still present beneath the dust, but its ability to reflect clearly is hidden. You do not need to create the mirror again. You only need to remove what is covering it.

The same principle applies to Chivam.

Chivam does not have to be created within you. It is already there. It has to be uncovered.

The contents of the mind are like the dust on the mirror.

The Contents of the Mind Are the Hurdle

Human beings normally identify themselves with whatever appears in the mind.

"I am angry."

"I am afraid."

"I am worried."

"I am happy."

"I like this."

"I dislike that."

"I want this."

"I don't want that."

But these are contents of the mind, not the deepest You.

The mind is necessary for living in the human world. It helps you think, communicate, work, maintain relationships and perform your responsibilities.

The purpose of Chivality is therefore not to destroy the functioning mind or the human body.

Rather, it is to gradually dissolve the unnecessary contents that keep the mind occupied—particularly attachments, negative emotions, fear, anxiety, worries, ego and other disturbances.

As these contents diminish, the mind becomes quieter.

From Human Mind to Pure Mind

Imagine a glass of muddy water.

If you keep disturbing it, the mud remains suspended and the water appears dirty. But if you stop disturbing it and allow it to remain still, the mud gradually settles at the bottom and the clarity of the water becomes visible.

Silentation works on a similar principle.

When you sit comfortably and quietly, using the remembrance and energy of the Master, the continuous activity of the mind can gradually settle.

As the contents of the mind diminish, the mind loses its ordinary human quality of constant emotional and psychological disturbance.

It becomes increasingly pure and quiet.

In Chivality, this is described as the emergence of the pure mind or Divine mind, through which the deeper Chivam can become exposed.

It is not that Chivam suddenly comes into existence.

Chivam was already present. The coverings have become thinner.

Chivam Has to Be Awakened

There is a deeper reason why this transformation is difficult.

Although Chivam is within you, your ordinary mind is continuously occupied with its own contents. Therefore, the Chivam within you is not experienced as your living reality.

You may have a powerful lamp in a room, but if the lamp is covered completely, its light cannot illuminate the room.

Similarly, Chivam is present, but the disturbed mind prevents its nature from being experienced.

The practice of Chivality is therefore a process of awakening and uncovering Chivam within oneself.

The Master and the Master's energy are important in this process because the practitioner uses the remembrance of the Master and Silentation to become increasingly thoughtless and relaxed.

The Magnetic Field of Chivam

There is another important aspect.

A magnet does not have to call another piece of iron loudly. When the iron comes within the influence of the magnetic field, it is naturally attracted.

In the same way, Chivality describes Chivam as having a magnetic quality.

When the mind becomes sufficiently thoughtless and Chivam is experienced more directly, this Divine presence naturally attracts other souls towards it.

The attraction does not depend on argument, preaching or intellectual explanation.

It is like the fragrance of a flower.

The flower does not announce, "Come and smell me."

Its fragrance spreads naturally, and those who come near experience it.

Similarly, when Chivam becomes increasingly manifest through a person, others may naturally feel drawn towards that presence because of the peace and stillness associated with it.

Chivality — The Search for "Who Am I?"

This is the essential purpose of Chivality.

Chivality is not merely a philosophy to be understood intellectually. It is a system of practice to discover the Chivam within oneself.

The fundamental question is:

"Who am I?"

Am I the body?

Am I the thoughts?

Am I the feelings?

Am I the emotions?

Am I the desires?

Am I the ego?

Or is there something beyond all these?

Chivality guides the practitioner inward—not to find another object, but to discover the Avinashi that is already present beyond the contents of the mind.

The journey can therefore be understood simply:

Human mind → reduction of mind contents → thoughtlessness → pure mind → exposure of Chivam → realisation of the Self.

The final discovery is not that you have acquired something new.

It is that what you were searching for was already within you.

You are That.

You are the Avinashi.

You are beyond the mind.

You are Chivam.

That is the answer to the question:

"Who Am I?"
