1) Dear abhyasis,

The metaphor of the ocean and its inhabitants beautifully illustrates the nature of attachment and its impact on spiritual growth. Just as water animals cannot survive outside their natural habitat, humans, deeply attached to the materialistic world, find it difficult to transcend to a higher spiritual realm. This attachment binds them to the cycle of life and death, causing discomfort and disturbance, even after physical death.

True liberation lies in understanding the difference between using the material world for sustenance and becoming attached to it. The feeling of possession, though comforting in the short term, can lead to immense suffering if carried beyond life.

The goal of spiritual practice is to release these attachments, enabling us to move from the transient world of samsara (the cycle of birth and rebirth) to the permanent and peaceful state of the spiritual realm. By detaching ourselves from materialistic desires and focusing on our spiritual journey, we can make our lives and beyond more meaningful and harmonious.

Samsara Sagara, the ocean of worldly existence, reminds us of the importance of transcending the waves of attachment and finding solace in the spiritual shore.
